What to Do When Facebook Dating Goes Wrong—You’re Being Stalked
7 Sep
So, let’s picture this scenario. You’re chatting with several Facebook daters, looking for someone that you wouldn’t mind dating on Facebook. Maybe a few people catch your eye, but no one really. So you just sign off and then sign back on the next day. And you have the creepiest message from someone who wants to date you…a little too creepy. However, you don’t know what to do. So the question is—how do you get rid of creepers when Facebook dating goes wrong? Well, it’s actually ten times easier than you think!
1. Block ‘Em
First of all, block them. Don’t warn them, don’t say anything, just do it. It will make your life ten times easier and will make it ten times easier for you to meet other Facebook daters without hearing the person stalking you (or rather, your potential stalker) complaining or trying to grab your attention. They can’t see your posts and you can’t see theirs—meaning that your Facebook dating experience is almost perfect now! Right?…well, there are a few drawbacks about dating on Facebook…
2. Remove Your Name From the Public Directory or Change Your Name
Or both. You can give yourself a cool, Facebook dating nickname. While you’re dating on Facebook, it’s best to take your name out of the public search. This means that anyone that’s looking for you can only reach you by domain. Of course, you’re probably wondering why, if you’re dating on Facebook, would you want to make it harder to be tracked down? Well, the primary reason is that it keeps Facebook daters with overly amorous intentions from constantly bugging you. If you find that multiple Facebook daters are a problem, then stay away from vanity urls. Let’s face it—they make things easier…but sometimes it’s a little bit too easy, if someone you don’t plan on Facebook dating won’t buzz off.
3. Make an Alternate Facebook Dating Profile
Or, lastly, you could make an alternate profile for when you’re Facebook dating and use your normal one for friends and family. Make sure that both are unlisted and that you use different names for each profile while you’re dating on Facebook. This will help to keep away overly amorous Facebook daters and also give you down time from Facebook daters that you might like…but you can only deal with for so much time.
