What to Do When Facebook Dating Goes Wrong—Minors
30 Aug
Facebook dating isn’t foolproof—not by any means. As a matter of fact, this is one of the easiest ways to end up in trouble with online dating, since dating on Facebook is generally done on a more personal level. However, there are certain ways that you can get around certain situations with other Facebook daters. So the question is—what should you do when Facebook dating goes wrong and you discover your special someone is a minor?
End the Relationship
They might seem like a great guy or gal and they might seem just as mature as most Facebook daters…but it’s not legal if you’re an adult. And, in this day and age, the law is cracking down on Myspace and Facebook daters who date those who are underage. It doesn’t matter if you thought that you were Facebook dating someone of legal age at first—once you find out that they’re jailbait, well, they’re jailbait. HOWEVER, if they are close to being the legal age and you’re willing to wait for them, see if that’s a more viable option. Dating on Facebook and finding Facebook daters that you connect with is hard enough—but it’s worth waiting for someone if they mean a lot to you.
If you don’t have the option to wait and the kid won’t leave you be, you’re going to have to cut the cord and block them. Meanwhile, try to look for other people who are dating on Facebook (and your age, of course). And, if you see someone that they might like as you’re searching for someone new, maybe shoot them a message and tell them about your old friend. Maybe they’ll find that they click better together than you and your old Facebook dating friend did.
Move On
Dating on Facebook gives you the opportunity to meet loads more people—and find plenty of others who are looking for love, just like you. However, just like in real life, take a break from dating on Facebook if you find out that your special someone was a minor and didn’t tell you until later. Relax and stay single for a little while. It’s just as painful as a regular breakup—it just has the risk of you going to jail. However, if you didn’t know while you two were dating on Facebook, chances are that you will not be prosecuted if inquired about it later on. Just make sure that it’s clear that you didn’t know.
