Facebook Dating Safety

30 Sep

When it comes to Facebook dating, we have the bad habit of getting a little bit too comfortable. After all, we’re on the computer. What can they do? However, this is where a lot of people find that they get themselves into trouble. Let’s face it—with all the technology nowadays, you have to be careful when it comes to dating on Facebook. While most Facebook daters aren’t going to give two flying fuzzy bunny feet if you dump them, others are a little bit more sensitive. And then there are a few just plain stalkers (luckily just a very few!) who are also giving dating on Facebook a try. So the question is—how do you protect yourself from Facebook daters who have some not so lovely intentions?

Keep Everything Private

First, while dating on Facebook, NEVER give out your number, address, or any of that. While you can’t delete your number about half of the time (it’s a glitch or something), you can set it up so that you are the only one who can see your phone number. Few people give out their addresses, but those few are needlessly causing problems for themselves. Facebook daters, don’t do this. People can figure out where you live based on your cell phone/house phone’s area code if you aren’t careful while Facebook dating. There are online sites that allow them to figure out where you bought your cell from. It might not be exact, but it’s still too close for comfort. Beware of your school info as well. You can keep your information private to all but a few—keep this in mind while Facebook dating.

What if You Want to Meet Them?

While dating on Facebook, don’t automatically assume that you should go meet someone alone after a few months. Take a trusted friend or two—even if you’re a guy. Have them sit back in the corner or something and keep an eye on things. If anything gets out of hand, you’re covered. If you’re underage, have your mom and dad come with you. Call it a double date! This isn’t saying that you can’t meet lovely people while dating on Facebook and trust them—it’s just saying that it’s best to be safe than sorry while Facebook dating. There are all sorts of Facebook daters. There are Facebook daters that use Facebook dating for long-term relationships and those that don’t and then there are a few that you probably shouldn’t try to meet in real life. Keep this in mind as you safely Facebook date!

Well, you’re right that most Facebook daters aren’t going to give two flying fuzzy bunny feet if you dump them, others are a little bit more sensitive.
