Facebook Dating: Safety First

20 Dec

It seems that everyone runs into the same issue when they combine Facebook and dating. They feel too safe, too fast. No one assumes that there can be trouble since there are screens to protect them. Yet, that’s the biggest mistake that can be made. Technology has come too far for anyone to feel as though they shouldn’t proceed with caution when they’re using Facebook for this purpose.

On one hand, it is Facebook, meaning that not too many people would take it personally if you told them to take a hike. Then there are the few on the other hand who may take it as a bit of a blow to the ego. And this is when your Facebook fantasy can become a Facebook nightmare. Have you ever wondered what you should do in the event the person you are trying to cut loose is hanging on with a vengeance?

Here are a few tips to follow when the bullet you’re trying to dodge keeps ricocheting back in your direction:

  • Personal information should be kept personal. This means that you should keep your communication limited to Facebook. Don’t exchange personal contact information. You should also take steps to make your number unseen on your Facebook profile.
  • Public places and crowds are your friends. If you decide that you want to meet someone that you’ve been dating on Facebook, never do it on your own. Make it a group outing and stay with the group.

Daters on Facebook come in a wide range. Some are looking for Mr. /Mrs. Right; while others are looking for Mr. /Mrs. Right now.  If someone makes you uncomfortable, follow that feeling and distance yourself immediately. Never ignore what your gut is saying, it is most likely right. Always put your safety first when dating on Facebook.
